Bring It Back

The genesis of Bring It Back came from local elders in 2013. During a consultation involving the local older people as well as local managers we learnt that there was a demand for more opportunities for creative activities for elderly people within their neighbourhood in Queenis Crescent and the surrounding area. In addition, the local older people also addressed the need of projects designed specifically to meet the daily challenges they told us they faced around social exclusion, loneliness and a sedentary lifestyle.

Bring It Back was created to provide opportunities to local older people to socialise and being creative through exploring the old songs they love and sharing memories from the past. The participants became so motivated and confident that they even chose to give their group a name: ‘The Inbetweeners’. The Inbetweeners’ not only ended up performing in few occasions to a small audience in the local summer fair but continued to shape the project by sharing their concerns, desires and ideas, which were incorporated and adapted into the sessions and performances. In addition, local residents and workers in the audiences offered valuable feedback and encouragement during the project, which contributed towards developing the project further.
